Nottingham Forest made it three wins from three games last night as they defeated Northampton Town 2-0 at Sixfields Stadium. After the game, supporters were keen to praise the performance of Cafu.

Forest’s midfielder capped the win with a fine second goal after Lyle Taylor had given the Reds a lead in the second half.

The performance of Cafu for Forest really caught the eye. He was a surprise signing last season, joining initially on loan from Olympiacos prior to the 2020/21 campaign.

He managed 33 appearances, registering two assists and was largely okay as he found his feet in English football.

Cafu typically plays the conventional central midfield role. His main skillset includes moving the ball and ensuring the back four is protected from deep.

Hughton did utilise him as a number 10 on some occasions last season, but that role wasn’t really suited to him, it’s fair to say.

The hope will be that Cafu can kick on even further next season. It would appear he has the backing of Hughton who seems a big fan.

Forest fans rave about Cafu performance

He’s by no means perfect but he has raised some eyebrows since arriving at Forest and in a good sense at that.

Of course, last night saw the Reds come up against League Two opposition so at this stage there’s nothing to get overly excited about.

It is good that Cafu looks sharp and gained a reward for his performance last night by notching the team’s second goal.

Forest had 953 fans at the game last night and plenty of those took to Twitter to rave about the 28-year-old.
