Brentford are set to make another attempt to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest. Alan Nixon of The Sun has confirmed on Twitter that the Bees are undeterred in their efforts to prise the youngster away from the City Ground.

Johnson was on target twice for the Reds yesterday as Forest played out a 2-2 draw with Crewe at Gresty Road. His goals were taken extremely well and boss Chris Hughton will have been delighted.

What the future holds remains to be seen. Forest seem certain to cash in on at least one player this summer and that could be Johnson.

Following 13 goals and 14 assists for Lincoln during 2020/21, his stock has naturally risen. Brentford are among Leeds, Leicester and Barnsley in the race to sign the versatile forward.

The Premier League newcomers have already had one bid knocked back for Johnson. Now, however, they’re set to test Forest’s resolve once more with an improved offer.

Johnson future: Forest must stand firm

Forest can’t afford to let their bright young talent leave so close to the start of the campaign. The Reds face Coventry in the 2021/22 curtain-raiser two weeks today.

Johnson is only 20 and if he stars for Forest this season his valuation will only increase further. As a result, the Reds need to try and dig their heels in with this one.

Forest have absolutely nothing to gain by selling Johnson. A replacement is likely to cost a fortune and the Reds aren’t blessed with an abundance of wingers.

The 20-year-old knows he will play regularly at Forest and that should be enough to tempt him into sticking at the City Ground for at least another season.
