Back in March 2020 teenager, Reece Wylie was linked with a move to Chelsea. Fast forward over a year and the midfielder is on trial with Nottingham Forest.

The 17-year-old came through the ranks at Aldershot and featured for the Reds as they took on Barrow at the club’s training ground this afternoon.

Wylie made his first outings for the Aldershot first-team towards the end of the 2020/21 campaign. He came off the bench in games against Hartlepool and King’s Lynn.

His contract is now up, however, and Forest have chosen to take him on trial for their under-23 ranks.

Wylie is a midfielder who fits the role of a box-to-box player down to the ground. The player has also represented England at schoolboy level.

Back in 2020, TEAMtalk claimed that several Premier League and Championship clubs were keen; with Chelsea thought to be the best-placed to sign them.

Wylie was set to net Aldershot a six-figure windfall. The Blues were desperate to add the midfielder, although nothing came to fruition.

Forest could strike gold with a move for Wylie

The Reds might have been slow to strengthen their first-team squad this summer, but a few new names have been added to the academy.

Several youngsters have checked in to bolster the ranks and Wylie could be the next to put pen-to-paper on a Forest deal.

For now, it seems as though the teenager is merely enjoying a trial period and he’ll hope to impress sufficiently.

Forest aren’t blessed with an abundance of options in midfield and he’ll be aware that the pathway towards the first-team is relatively clear.

Wylie was once a target for Chelsea and it’s not clear why that move didn’t bear any fruit for the youngster.

The Blues’ loss could be Forest’s gain though and perhaps this would be a decent deal for the Reds.
