Former Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi has pulled off an astonishing coup by taking Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld to Al-Duhail. At this stage, however, whether he will see him play for the club remains to be seen.
The Belgium international has ended a six-year association with Spurs to head to Qatar where he has completed a deal worth £13 million.
He helped Tottenham reach a Champions League Final during his time in North London. During his time with Spurs he made 236 appearances, scoring nine goals and claiming five assists.
Now, he will embark on a new challenge, experiencing a new culture in a different country.
It’s fair to say that Alderweireld’s departure has been on the cards. Last season was a poor one from his point of view and Tottenham are perhaps right to cash in.
Lamouchi has pulled off a coup, although he might not see his new recruit in action as speculation surrounds his future.
Ex-Forest boss Lamouchi could leave
According to Get French Football News, Lamouchi could be about to step down. He has been in charge of the club since October and has a win ratio of 64%.
Tensions have risen between the ex-Forest incumbent and the club’s owners, however, and his future in Qatar is now in jeopardy.
It seems as though the man who narrowly missed out on the play-offs with Forest might not be out of work long.
Made in Foot claims that Bordeaux are keen to add the manager as they look to appoint a new manager prior to the season starting.
Lamouchi has experience of managing in France. He led Rennes into the Europa League but was sacked prior to joining Forest.
Alderweireld has joined Al-Duhail at an exciting time for the ambitious club. Given the nature of the signing, it will be interesting to see whether Lamouchi can resolve his issues with the club and get to work with the defender.
