Leeds Live journalist has claimed that there is no substance linking Leeds United with a move for Nottingham Forest starlet Brennan Johnson.
Beren Cross made the claim on Facebook Live after a Leeds XI defeated Guiseley in a pre-season friendly last night.
Johnson is a wanted man. Various reports have claimed that the 20-year-old is on the radar of several top clubs.
Last season, the academy graduate was on loan at Lincoln. He scored 13 goals and claimed 14 assists as the Imps were beaten in the League One play-off final.
That has seen intense speculation surrounding his future. Brentford, Barnsley and Leicester have all been linked along with Leeds.
It would seem as though the Whites won’t be in the mix to sign him this summer. Cross doesn’t think he has seen any substance to Marcelo Bielsa swooping for the Forest man.
He told Facebook Live: “If he’s been at Lincoln on loan, he’s at Forest now, you suppose he’s a big prospect. If he was to come, it would be for the under-23s, wouldn’t it? But no, it’s not one that I’ve seen any substance with.”
Leeds being out of the race for Johnson is good for Forest
Of all the clubs who have been linked with a move for the talented youngster, Leeds are perhaps the most exciting.
Bielsa’s men played some wonderful football last season and captured the hearts of several neutrals.
They also have a proud history with their academy and the pathway towards first-team stardom is pretty clear.
With that in mind, Forest fans will perhaps be encouraged that Johnson isn’t on Leeds’ radar.
He deserves a regular shot with the Reds and supporters will hope he can become integral to the club’s fortunes.
Johnson will continue to have clubs monitor him, but Forest should stand firm a little while longer..
