Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Manchester United are ready to make a decision on Nottingham Forest target James Garner.

The Reds had the youngster on loan during the second half of last season. He raised the City Ground roof with a series of fine performances, scoring four goals in 20 appearances.

Garner scored Forest’s goal in the East Midlands-derby back in February, confirming himself as one of the club’s finest ever loan players.

It’s no secret that Forest want him back. Chris Hughton utilised him in the team on a regular basis and he shone under his management.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Garner has featured for United in pre-season. He has played in games against Derby, QPR and in last night’s clash with Brentford.

Now, Sheth has confirmed on Sky Sports News that James Garner and Phil Jones are two players with their futures in doubt.

The 20-year-old will be allowed to leave, although it seems as though it will only be a loan that is sanctioned by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United are yet to sign a midfielder this summer. The boss does, however, have a plethora of options and Garner remains out of the first-team picture.

Can Forest land Garner?

A number of factors need to be taken into consideration.

Firstly, if United want Garner to taste Premier League football, Forest will definitely be ruled out.

There is enough to suggest, however, that he might not be quite ready to be playing in the top-flight every week.

United won’t want to waste a year of his development by sitting him on a bench, so regular football is key.

Forest are crying out for midfielders and Garner offers something different to Ryan Yates, Cafu and Jack Colback.

The academy staff at Old Trafford were delighted with how Hughton deployed Garner last season.

As a result, Forest could be in the box seat to land the youngster for the 2021/22 campaign.
