Nottingham Forest target Philip Zinckernagel enjoyed a bittersweet afternoon yesterday. He was in the Watford team that took on Arsenal at the Gunners’ training base at London Colney.

The Danish performer is reportedly wanted by Forest. Some reports have also claimed that the 26-year-old will definitely be allowed to leave.

The caveat is that he won’t be allowed anywhere until the Hornets have added an attacking player of their own.

As a result, Xisco is using him as part of his pre-season preparations and that’s not particularly a bad thing for Forest.

The Reds are still waiting to add to their outfield ranks. Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath remains the only addition to Chris Hughton’s squad ahead of the new campaign.

Signing Zinckernagel is a real possibility. Yesterday, he helped himself to a goal against a strong Arsenal side, although Watford were thrashed 4-1.

Zinckernagel only signed for the Hornets in January. He arrived from Bodo/Glimt and helped Watford win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

He scored once and claimed five assists during 2020/21 and seemed to take well to life in the Championship.

Zinckernagel is a versatile performer when it comes to playing in advanced positions. He operates on both flanks or through the middle as a No.10.

The Reds are in need of some new players and they must act quickly if they’re to be in place ready for the new season.

At 26, Zinckernagel fits the bill of what the new Forest CEO looks for quite nicely and conversations need to be had with Watford.

His goal yesterday might have highlighted to Xisco what he is capable of, although he is still expected to leave.

Given the Hornets desire not to offload him until they have a signing in place, Forest fans will be hoping to see ‘Watford sign’ on the Sky Sports News yellow ticker very soon.
