Forest are interested in signing Josh Laurent from Reading and it would seem as though one bid has been rejected.
The Reds are in the market to sign a few new players and the Royals midfielder is subject of a bid from Forest, according to The Athletic.
Laurent signed for Reading prior to last season from Shrewsbury. He played in all but one of the Royals’ fixtures in the Championship during 2020/21.
The combative midfielder helped Reading flirt with the play-offs and collected the club’s Player of the Year award.
Laurent was linked with an £8 million switch to Rangers. Given their financial predicament, however, that valuation is now a pipedream for the Royals.
Now, The Athletic has claimed that at least one seven-figure offer has been made for Laurent by Forest.
The midfielder has plenty of experience in the Football League and he’s really shown his worth at the Madejski Stadium.
Losing him would be a massive blow but Forest will hope to get the signing over the line and will return with a second offer.
Should Forest up the ante in Laurent quest?
This would be a very smart piece of business from a Forest perspective. Laurent was an integral part of the Reading team last season as they very nearly reached the play-offs.
Central midfielders are a must for Chris Hughton during the current window. Ryan Yates, Cafu and Jack Colback are in the squad but another player or two would be most welcomed.
Laurent fits the profile of a player who the Reds should be trying to attract. He is only 26 and is yet to reach his peak years.
The midfielder is an uncompromising presence and he could prove to be a very decent addition to the ranks indeed.
