Wolves goalkeeper John Ruddy has poked fun at Nottingham Forest on Instagram following last night’s Carabao Cup clash. The Premier League outfit ran out 4-0 winners on Trentside, with Chris Hughton’s men having no answer to a devastating display of finishing.

Ruddy was handed a rare start by Bruno Lage. Number one custodian Jose Sa was handed a rest after starting the first two Premier League games of the new campaign.

Ruddy has been with Wolves for some time. He arrived from Norwich in 2017 and helped the club back into the Premier League.

The former Everton trainee has made 67 appearances for the Molineux-based outfit, keeping 35 clean sheets in the process.

Prior to arriving in the West Midlands, he spent several years with Norwich City where he made 242 appearances for the Canaries.

Although he will be thankful for a game last night, he might have wished for more to do. Ruddy was hardly able to prove himself to Lage last night, with Forest unable to register a shot on target once again.

The veteran stopper was largely pedestrian. Goals from Romain Saiss, Daniel Podence, Trincao and Morgan Gibbs-White ensured an easy progression to round three.

Ruddy has one England cap to his name and he will look back on his career with a lot of pride. At 34, he will still hope to play some games this season as a backup to Sa.

What did Ruddy say about Forest?

Following a straightforward night at the office for the one-time England man, Ruddy took to Instagram.

He dropped a suggestion that he enjoyed watching the game last night; despite the fact that he, of course, played the full 90 minutes.

In fairness, he didn’t have a lot to do. A very young Forest side featured seven academy players and was always going to be in for a tough night at the City Ground.

Forest’s young guns should use Ruddy’s comments to spur them on to get better, although some might see his post as somewhat disrespectful.
