Two days ago, Football Insider linked Nottingham Forest with a move for Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton. Derby and Norwich are also keen and frankly, we think this rumour is utterly ridiculous.

At this time of the year, it’s imperative to take most transfer links with a pinch of salt. This one just makes no sense whatsoever and it seems unlikely Forest will swoop.

The report claims that Brighton have slashed their demands for the goalkeeper. He is down the pecking order at the AMEX Stadium and Graham Potter is keen to sell.

Forest have already added Ethan Horvath to their ranks this summer. The American goalkeeper arrived on a free transfer from Club Brugge and has looked like a decent addition.

The 26-year-old kept Wolves at bay for almost an hour on Tuesday night. His fine saves kept Forest in the contest, although he was powerless really to prevent a heavy defeat.

One thing he is doing is placing some pressure on Brice Samba. The Congolese stopper has made errors in each game he’s played this season and Chris Hughton must be concerned.

Forest also have Jordan Smith in the ranks at the moment, with the academy graduate currently third choice. George Shelvey and Jordan Wright are highly-rated youngsters, with Forest well-stocked in their goalkeeping department.

Why shouldn’t Forest move for Walton?

With so many gaping holes in the Forest squad, adding another goalkeeper would probably lead to riots along Radcliffe Road.

Forest can’t really justify adding another goalkeeper and the links to Walton don’t make a great deal of sense at all.

The 25-year-old is a decent custodian and he has bags of experience when it comes to playing in the Football League.

In the here and now, Forest cannot justify another goalkeeper, however. For that reason, these links just seem absolutely ridiculous.
