Oliver Hammond saw his dreams come true on Tuesday night when he made his Nottingham Forest debut. Only a few months after penning a first professional deal with the club, Chris Hughton handed the teenager a start against Wolves. Afterwards, Fin Back and Ryan Yates reacted on Instagram.
The youngster was thrown into the City Ground cauldron. Forest were thumped 4-0 by Wolves, although it was a relatively young Reds outfit going up against a vastly experienced Premier League team.
Forest are without a point yet this season and the result did little in the way of confidence ahead of Saturday’s game against Derby. The Reds face their fierce rivals with the Brian Clough Trophy at stake.
Hammond has been with Forest since the age of eight. He has risen through the youth team ranks and last season captained the under-23 outfit under Andy Reid. Now, he’ll have his sights on more appearances for the first team.
The academy player operated on the right-hand side of a three-man attack on Tuesday. He is, however, comfortable playing in a central midfield role, handing Hughton food for thought.
What have Ryan Yates and Fin Back said after Hammond’s debut for Forest?
Both Back and Yates have been regular in the Forest first-team during 2021/22. Yates has captained the side on several occasions in the absence of Joe Worrall who remains out with a calf injury.
Back has burst onto the scene. After a strong showing in the Carabao Cup against Bradford City, he has been a regular on the bench for Forest’s league campaign.
An injury to Jordi Osei-Tutu in the Blackburn game saw him thrust into the action, whilst against Stoke, he played the full 90 minutes.
Hammond will look at Yates, and more recently, Back and hold a desire for more opportunities at senior level. For now, it’ll probably be back to the under-23 team, although he didn’t disgrace himself at all on Tuesday night.
