Nottingham Forest are eyeing a move to appoint Chris Wilder as the club’s new manager. Chris Hughton’s position is under serious scrutiny after a winless start to 2021/22 and The Sun on Sunday (29/08; page 60), claims Forest are working on a contingency plan.
Wilder has been out of work since leaving Sheffield United in March. The latest report claims he is keen to get back into work and would jump at the chance to manage Forest.
The Reds got their first point on the board in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Derby County. Brennan Johnson scored with eight minutes remaining to cancel out Tom Lawrence’s first-half strike.
Now, new Forest CEO Dane Murphy is weighing up whether to make the change prior to the team’s next game against Cardiff City after the international break.
Wilder would be a relatively straightforward appointment. He is currently a free agent and it’s claimed he’d be willing to take the job with the current group of players in place at the club.
The 53-year-old would then take stock of the situation ahead of the January transfer window where he would likely seek some new recruits.
What have Forest fans made of the links to Wilder?
Well, it seems as though plenty would welcome him at the club for certain. His time at Sheffield United was largely successful and Forest fans think he could do a similar job.
Wilder has a somewhat unique style of football and it’d be interesting to see if he could implement that now that the season is already underway.
With Forest without a win from their first five matches, the club has a big decision to make before the next game in two weeks.
Following this morning’s reports, plenty of Forest fans have been reacting on Twitter to the news and here is what they had to say.
