Harry Arter has today ended his Nottingham Forest nightmare at least on a temporary basis. He has joined Charlton Athletic on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign, the club has confirmed.

The 31-year-old has made just 14 appearances for the Reds. His last came back in January during a 1-0 win over Preston North End in the Championship.

Arter hasn’t quite hit the mark at the City Ground. In fact, he’s been largely disappointing and really struggled at the start of last season. Since Chris Hughton arrived, he’s never been considered a regular in the team.

Charlton are hopeful of challenging for promotion honours this season. Under Nigel Adkins, they have a manager who has been there and won promotion from League One before.

Arter will play alongside Ben Watson at The Valley. The experienced midfielder will help the Addicks keep an experienced spine and he represents a coup for League One.

It is thought that Arter earns around £38,000-a-week at Forest. Of course, Charlton won’t fork out the entirety of that wage, although getting some of it away from the books will help the Reds.

What have Charlton fans said about Arter joining from Forest?

The experienced midfielder was on Charlton’s books as a youngster and his career has now gone full circle.

Arter is an experienced performer, although Charlton fans will be hoping to see him play better than he ever did for Forest.

They do seem impressed though. With the club currently in League One, they do think this signing shows a statement of intent and have taken to Twitter.

Here is what the club’s supporters have had to say on social media after Arter checks in at the club where he started his career.
