Nottingham Forest completed the post-deadline day signing of Djed Spence last night. The Middlesbrough man has checked in on loan for the 2021/22 campaign and will bolster Chris Hughton’s squad. Afterwards, Britt Assombalonga and Yannick Bolasie reacted on Instagram.
It’s an interesting addition for the Reds. Mohamed Drager arrived on deadline day, whilst Jordi Osei-Tutu is nearing full fitness to compete for the right-back berth. Fin Back is also in the manager’s thoughts after showing his credentials this season.
Spence can play further forward though. Perhaps he is viewed by Hughton as a versatile player who can provide competition for a number of positions. Nonetheless, he’s now checked in as Forest’s final summer addition.
The Boro academy graduate has enjoyed steady progression in recent years. He has made 70 appearances for Boro in total and has even played three Championship games during 2021/22. With that in mind, he shouldn’t need too much time to get up speed.
What have Assombalonga and Bolasie said about Spence joining Forest?
The former Reds ace Assombalonga clearly fancied Spence as a decent signing for Forest. The striker opted to move to Turkey in the summer but spent a few years doing the business for Forest.
He has basically summed up why Spence’s move in two words, as did Bolasie who perhaps hinted at a little nickname for the 21-year-old following his City Ground switch.
The former Everton trickster had a short spell at the Riverside Stadium last season and he clearly thinks Forest are getting themselves a player with bags of pace for the rest of the campaign.
Spence will hope to settle in quickly and get himself in the team. His pace could prove a useful asset and it’ll be interesting to see where Hughton does utilise the Boro performer.
