Xande Silva signed for Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day. He penned a two-year deal at the City Ground and will provide competition both on the wing and up front as a striker. After his Forest arrival, he received Instagram messages from Carlton Cole and Yuri Ribeiro.

The 24-year-old will hope to make his debut during next Sunday’s game with Cardiff City. Forest face the Bluebirds and then Middlesbrough in two home games which the Reds simply have to win.

Silva has only made two appearances for West Ham since signing for the club in 2018. He cost the Hammers £3 million from Vitoria Guimaraes but was restricted to a couple of outings in the cup.

Last season he was on loan in Greece. He joined Aris Thessaloniki for the campaign, scoring four goals and claiming three assists from his 33 appearances in all competitions.

He did play a small part in West Ham’s pre-season campaign. It was pretty clear that he wouldn’t be part of David Moyes’ plans once again and he was set to head back to Greece.

At the eleventh hour on deadline day, however, Silva opted for a move to Forest instead. He might see England as a country where he has something to prove and that could bode well for the Reds.

What have Cole and Ribeiro said about Silva moving to Forest?

Cole is a cult hero at West Ham and he clearly thinks this move could be a good one for the versatile forward. He’s sent him an emotional message and implied it’s a good move for the player.

Ribeiro left the City Ground in the summer. He was a firm fan favourite but chose not to extend his stay with the club. He will now play Europa League football next season with Legia Warsaw.

He has also heaped praise on his compatriot. Silva will now hope to follow Ribeiro and become a hit among the Forest fan base.
