Nottingham Forest Under-23s got their Premier League Cup campaign off to a flyer last night, with Joe Lolley getting an hour of game time under his belt.

The Reds defeated Blackburn Rovers 4-1 and the Forest winger showcased his credentials to Chris Hughton who was watching on in the stands.

Lolley scored twice during the contest, with Ateef Konate and Will Swan also helping themselves to goals against their counterparts from Blackburn.

It was a strong side named by Andy Reid. Fin Back captained the side, whilst Tyrese Fornah, Loic Mbe Soh, Baba Fernandes and Jayden Richardson all starting alongside Lolley.

The Reds winger has been out of action for the last three games. He has been sidelined with an illness and after a sharp pre-season that’s proved disappointing.

Lolley will hope to be back in action for Forest on Sunday. The Reds face Cardiff City and the 29-year-old will be desperate to help his teammates.

The versatile forward struggled for consistency last season, amid several fitness problems. On his day, he has proved Forest’s matchwinner, although those days have been all too infrequent lately.

Having Lolley back to his best could be massive. The challenge for Hughton is to get him up to that level in the near future for the good of Forest.

What did Forest fans say about Lolley?

It’s fair to say he’s a likeable member of the team. The winger has always given his best to Forest and supporters know just how capable he can be in full flight.

Forest would dearly love to have him back to his best. His goals last night were certainly trademark efforts from the Reds performer.

Blackburn had no answer for his brilliance and this showing might have just given the Forest man some confidence.

Here is what the Reds faithful had to say about Lolley as he destroyed Blackburn in last night’s under-23 contest.
