Nottingham Forest loan star James Garner made his debut for England Under-21s last night. The Manchester United-owned starlet played the full 90 minutes as Lee Carsley’s team defeated Kosovo 2-0 at Stadium MK.

The Reds worked tirelessly over the summer to get Garner back to the City Ground. Forest fought off competition from Rangers, Norwich, Burnley and Sheffield United for his signature.

He has made two appearances since returning. Chris Hughton let Garner get some match fitness under his belt as Forest were thrashed by Wolves in the Carabao Cup. He also played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Derby.

Garner featured for United in their pre-season campaign. He made appearances in games against the Rams, Brentford and QPR, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then deciding to loan him out.

That alerted Forest and Hughton was desperate to re-add him to his squad. During the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, he scored four goals in 20 appearances for the Reds and became a hit on social media with the fans.

Now, the Forest faithful are looking forward to seeing Garner in action for real. The pandemic meant watching games on television for supporters, robbing the Reds faithful of a chance to see the United man for themselves.

What have fans said about Forest star Garner during England under-21 win?

It’s fair to say that plenty of supporters have been impressed. The game was shown live on Sky Sports and that allowed plenty of supporters the chance to see Garner strutting his stuff.

In the first half, he didn’t see a great deal of the ball. During the second half though he managed to get on it far more often and that allowed him to thrive.

He operated in midfield alongside Tottenham star Oliver Skipp and Crystal Palace player Conor Gallagher. Garner didn’t look out of place and supporters took to Twitter to discuss his performance.
