Facundo Ferreyra won’t have been a name many Nottingham Forest fans were expecting to keep tabs on, but here we are.
Forest are struggling for goals. With just four goals in five league outings, the goals aren’t flowing under Chris Hughton.
Lyle Taylor and Lewis Grabban look like being Hughton’s options until January. That is unless Forest pounce to sign a free agent in the coming weeks.
One name linked is Ferreyra, as Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo reported earlier this month that Forest were in talks to sign him.
It quickly looked like Forest had missed out. Chilean newspaper La Tercera reported that Ferreyra had chosen a move to Colo Cool and the deal would be done imminently.
However, TNT Sports now report that Ferreyra has suddenly performed a U-turn. Citing family problems, Ferreyra allegedly won’t be joining Colo Colo now.
Ferreyra, 30, was something of a goal machine back at Shakhtar Donetsk. With 59 goals in 115 games for the Ukrainian side, Ferreyra was on fire.
Newcastle fans will remember him for a dismal loan spell in the 2014-15 season. Since leaving Ukraine permanently in 2018, Ferreyra has struggled for goals at Benfica, Espanyol and Celta Vigo.
The Argentinian is a free agent having left Celta this summer. Having brought in Rodrigo Ely, Ferreyra was seen as another South American free agent who could bolster Hughton’s squad.
Maybe this Colo Colo snub will re-open the door to a move to Forest, though we must wish him all the best in whatever family issues have arisen first and foremost.
