Nottingham Forest are allegedly on the verge of sacking Chris Hughton – and the presence of Alex Neil at the City Ground last night will raise eyebrows.
Forest sadly lost once again on Wednesday night.
Hot on the heels of Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City, Forest were again beaten at home.
This time, it was Middlesbrough who claimed the win. Andraz Sporar and Onel Hernandez bagged the goals, giving Boro a 2-0 victory.
Hughton on the brink at Forest
The Telegraph’s John Percy reports that Forest are now set to part company with Hughton.
With just one point from seven Championship games, Forest are already in a relegation scrap.
The football has been poor, the goals are nowhere to be seen and Forest haven’t won a league game since April. Hughton’s time sadly looks like it will end very soon.
If true, this would be Dane Murphy’s first appointment at Forest – and he has to get it right after a few missteps from Forest in recent years.
Alex Neil spotted at the City Ground
What’s very interesting is that Alex Neil was at Wednesday’s Forest game.
VAVEL’s Ethan Lamb posted a photo from the City Ground last night, showing Neil in the stands.
Neil has been out of work since losing his job as Preston North End manager back in March.
The Scot largely did a great job at Deepdale. He twice had PNE challenging for the play-offs despite regularly losing his best players.
Neil’s end at Deepdale was ugly, but he’s a young manager with a Championship promotion on his CV.
Forest could do worse than Neil, and it will be fascinating to see if his presence at last night’s game is an indication of interest or just a case of Neil taking in a game.
