Nottingham Forest defeated Huddersfield Town yesterday to get their season up and running. Afterwards, Ryan Yates earned some praise for his performance in Steven Reid’s team.
The 23-year-old kept his place in the team under Forest’s interim boss. He has come under fire from various sections of the fan base this season, with some of it justified.
Yates has started all eight league games for Forest this season. He has captained the team three times, with the team’s first win coming yesterday afternoon.
The academy graduate hasn’t always covered himself in glory during his time in the team at Forest. He has made 90 appearances for the team though and the hope will be that he can kick on under a new manager.
The shackles did seem to come off for a few players yesterday and the hope will be that Yates can thrive in a new system and under a new manager.
Yates produced a stunning long-range effort which led to Joe Lolley squeezing in a second goal for Forest yesterday. The ex-Huddersfield man did see his effort later chalked off, with Lee Nicholls instead being put down for an own goal.
There is still work to do for the Nottingham-born player, of course, but this was a decent showing from the youngster.
What did the Forest fan base say about Yates’ performance?
In truth, it was hard to argue that this was a strong showing. He looked comfortable throughout and was one of Forest’s better-performing players.
Yates has come in for some criticism. The view from plenty of fans is that he quite simply lets too many games bypass him and gaining consistency is something to work on.
Very few doubted him yesterday though and his performance led to many compliments going on Twitter regarding his display. Here is what the Forest fan base had to say regarding his showing.
