Matty Cash has scored his first Aston Villa goal since joining the club from Nottingham Forest. He fired home the opening goal during a 3-0 win for Dean Smith’s side against Everton. After the game, he took to Instagram and received some praise from Lyle Taylor and Jermaine Jenas.
Cash was a revelation during his maiden campaign playing top-flight football. His £16 million transfer came on the back of just a single season playing as a right-back for Forest.
There has been talk of the ex-Reds performer earning an international call-up. It won’t be for England though. A plethora of right-back options for Gareth Southgate has seen Cash linked with a switch to play for Poland, his mum’s place of birth.
That would be an interesting move and one which could earn Forest more money. There is no confirmation, but perhaps the Reds included an international call-up clause as an add on in his sale.
Cash is an integral member of Smith’s team and on current form he deserves the plaudits coming his way. He has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and he’ll always be missed by the Forest faithful.
What have Jenas and Forest man Taylor said about Cash?
Both have taken to Twitter to discuss the former Forest man and congratulate him on his stunning display yesterday.
His first Villa goal will live long in the memory. He picked the ball up pretty far out and with no challenge coming opted to maraude forward. Once he reached the box he pulled the trigger and crashed an effort into the Holte End net.
The delight was clear on his face and his trademark knee slide followed on the Villa Park turf.
Former Forest player Jack Robinson and current talent Alex Mighten also responded to Cash’s post on Instagram.
