Nottingham Forest Under-23s made it three wins on the spin in Premier League 2. They destroyed Birmingham City 5-0 at Meadow Lane to continue their fine form.
Andy Reid deployed a 4-4-2 diamond against the Blues and it paid dividends. The Reds were 4-0 up at half-time with the second half merely a formality.
Will Swan bagged a brace, whilst Ateef Konate, Julian Larsson and Oliver Hammond also helped themselves to goals.
Reid’s team are playing some gorgeous football at the moment. Their free-flowing and forward-thinking play saw Birmingham struggled to get out of their own half at times.
Clearly, the young lads are buying into the style that Reid wants to play and that can only bode well for the future.
Fin Back and Tyrese Fornah got more minutes into their legs. Baba Fernandes also started after starring in the Carabao Cup earlier this season.
This wasn’t a night for singling out individuals though. From the goalkeeper to the centre-forward, this team looked the part.
Forest’s first-ever campaign playing Premier League 2 football got off to a slow start, but the young guns have now found their feet.
The Reds under-23s are next in action when they travel north to face Middlesbrough on Friday night.
What have Gary Brazil and Andy Reid said about the thumping Forest win?
Both have been keen to play down individual performances too, instead choosing to praise the efforts of everyone involved with the academy setup.
Reid oversaw a masterful victory over Birmingham and he claimed that he was made up for the players, whilst stating that he’d set them a challenge on the back of the latest win.
Gary Brazil is the man who many Forest fans believe should be given freedom of the City Ground.
The work he has done with the academy and nurturing players has been superb and he’s a firm favourite among the fan base.
Typically modest though, he was also keen to pay testament to the whole club, speaking of a great weekend for Nottingham Forest.
