Steven Reid masterminded a 2-0 win over Huddersfield for Nottingham Forest on Saturday. As a reward, he’s now been handed a place on the coaching staff of newly appointed head coach Steve Cooper.
The former Blackburn and West Brom midfielder completely revamped the Reds on Saturday. He ditched the stubborn 4-2-3-1 approach and blew Huddersfield away with a 3-4-3 system.
Forest played some gorgeous football in the West Yorkshire sunshine. A diving header from Lewis Grabban and an own goal by Lee Nicholls gave the Reds their first win of the campaign.
Reid was brought to the club by Chris Hughton. The former Newcastle and Brighton boss was shown the City Ground exit last week following a 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.
Many had presumed that Reid would join the departed manager in leaving the club, although that isn’t the case. The ex-Scotland coach will link up with Cooper and work alongside Alan Tate and Steve Rands on Steve Cooper’s backroom team.
Reid has been around the coaching scene for a little while. He may have desires to be a manager himself one day and as a result, Saturday’s win certainly highlighted his credentials.
What have Forest fans said about Reid?
It seems that keeping him on has proved a popular decision in the eye of supporters. Indeed, he did put a smile on supporters faces for the first time this season after all.
As a relatively young coach, this does look like a good step though. Reid has bags of potential when it comes to coaching players and various systems and Cooper clearly sees something in him.
Many supporters are delighted with the step taken by the club to keep Reid. As a result, many have taken to Twitter to praise the work of those involved.
Here is what the Forest fan base had to say on Twitter as it was confirmed Reid will be part of Cooper’s coaching staff.
