Neil Back has told The Athletic what Ben Brereton Diaz told Fin Back after Blackburn defeated Nottingham Forest earlier in the season.

The Chile international was part of the Rovers team that beat Forest 2-1 in the Reds’ second home game of the campaign.

Brereton Diaz didn’t score but he has now kicked on. He is the top goalscorer in the Championship with nine strikes to his name.

Back made his debut in the league for Forest during that contest. He stepped off the bench early doors when Jordi Osei-Tutu was forced off through injury.

One of the 18-year-old’s first actions during that outing was to nutmeg Brereton Diaz; much to the delight of the Forest fan base.

Back has not lifted the lid on what the former Reds striker said to the young Forest right-back after the contest.

He told The Athletic: “I loved it when he came off the bench and his first contribution was to put it through Ben Brereton’s legs and nutmeg him.

“Ben had a word with him at the end of the game and told him that he had played really well, which was nice because he didn’t have to do that.”

Back can become Forest mainstay in future years

The Forest gem is back with the under-23 team and is currently captaining the team during a strong run of form in their Premier League 2 campaign.

He is destined for a Forest future though. The youngster barely put a foot out of place in the four appearances he’s made and he could be a future star.

Back has the perfect role model when it comes to staying grounded and being successful. His dad helped England win the Rugby World Cup in 2003 and he will clearly look up to him.

At 18 there is bags of time for Back to shine. With Djed Spence, Mohamed Drager and Jordi Osei-Tutu on the books, he may have to be patient for now.

With two of those players only on loan, however, next season could be a real breakthrough campaign for the youngster.
