Nottingham Forest defeated Barnsley last night, with Brennan Johnson scoring and registering an assist during a 3-1 win. Afterwards, the academy graduate won praise from Matty Cash and Alex Mighten on Instagram.
The Reds were rampant during a scintillating second half. Cauley Woodrow had fired the Tykes into the lead, but goals from Johnson, Philip Zinckernagel and Lewis Grabban secured three big points.
Johnson looks to be getting there when it comes to playing in the Championship. The 20-year-old was mesmerising during the second 45 last night, leaving the Barnsley defence chasing shadows.
The starlet shone at Lincoln City last season. He scored 13 goals and claimed 14 assists as the Imps reached the League One play-off final before losing to Blackpool.
Johnson has now scored twice for the Reds and registered three assists during 2021/22 and he looks as though he could be a real asset under Steve Cooper.
What have Cash and Mighten said about Forest star Johnson?
Clearly, Aston Villa ace Cash is keeping close tabs on the tribulations of his former club. He summed up the performance of Johnson with just a single word.
Cash is a real star at Villa Park and has quickly adhered himself to their supporters as he did during his time at the City Ground. He could soon be gracing the international stage too, as he waits for confirmation that he can represent Poland.
Cash was excellent during the 2019/20 campaign and made the right-back spot his own under former boss Sabri Lamouchi.
Mighten was in the Forest squad last night. He came on for the final 15 minutes, replacing Joe Lolley who also put in a strong shift for the Reds.
The youngster assisted Lewis Grabban’s goal and perhaps he’s tailor-made for an impact role off the bench. He also summed up Johnson’s performance with just a single word on Instagram.
