Nottingham Forest roared back from a first-half deficit at Oakwell to thrash Barnsley 3-1 and edge out of the Championship relegation zone.
The Reds fell behind courtesy of a Cauley Woodrow penalty and after celebrating in front of the Forest fans, he was left with egg on his face.
A blistering second-half display saw goals from Philip Zinckerangel, Brennan Johnson and Lewis Grabban ensure a first win for head coach Steve Cooper.
Forest were rampant. A small tactical tweak on the hour provided the catalyst for Forest to kick on. Off went Tobias Figueiredo and on came Lewis Grabban as the Reds changed their shape.
That move allowed Zinckernagel and Johnson to link up superbly well. The pair assisted each other for goals and Barnsley had no answer for Forest’s brilliance.
The on-loan Watford man was in stunning form. He really does look a class above and it’s remarkable that Forest have managed to get him on loan.
During the first half, Zinckernagel played as a central striker and that didn’t really suit him.
Following Grabban’s introduction, however, the 26-year-old began to thrive. Zinckernagel now has two goals and four assists to his name in the red of Forest.
What did Forest supporters say about Zinckernagel?
Quite simply, they were blown away. With each passing performance, it becomes clear what a fantastic signing the versatile forward is.
Forest do still have work to do; the players will know that. With Zinckernagel fit and firing, however, you’d fancy the Reds to kick on in the coming weeks.
Zinckernegel could have finished the net with another goal. He fired into the legs of Bradley Collins with the Reds still trailing in the game.
Cooper has to get to know his squad but last night will have told him an awful lot about the brilliance of Zinckernagel.
Here is a selection of Tweets from the Forest fan base who loved the player’s performance last night.
