Nottingham Forest beat Barnsley 3-1 last night to climb out of the Championship relegation zone. Afterwards, Brennan Johnson compared himself and Joe Lolley to a pair of Manchester United heroes of yesteryear.
The Reds were scintillating during the second 45 last night. Forest scored three times through Johnson, Philip Zinckernagel and Lewis Grabban. Cauley Woodrow netted for the Tykes.
Johnson is growing into the Forest team. He spent last season on loan in League One with Lincoln City, scoring 13 goals and claiming 14 assists. The Imps were beaten in the play-off final at the end of the campaign.
He now has two Forest goals to his name and has also registered three assists for his teammates. Johnson is showcasing a versatility to play in a number of roles and he looks like being a big player.
Last night, Barnsley had no answer to his brilliance and afterwards, Joe Lolley raved about him on Instagram. The 29-year-old was also impressive during his time on the pitch.
What did Johnson say in response to Forest teammate Lolley?
It would seem as though the Reds youngster is a modest young man. So much so that he’s compared himself and Lolley to two former Manchester United stars.
Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole were arguably the best partnership to ever grace the Premier League. They won many trophies together at Manchester United and starred at Old Trafford.
Johnson has produced a tongue in cheek response to Lolley and suggested that the pair are akin to the former Red Devils stars.
It is good to see both players producing the goods at Forest. Lolley is respected among the fan base, whilst Johnson may well find himself as the heir to the winger’s throne.
Right now, Forest can enjoy both of them in the team together and the hope will be that the pair can lead the Reds to more wins in the coming months.
