Nottingham Forest defeated Barnsley 3-1 at Oakwell and in the second half, Ryan Yates won praise from the Reds fan base.
Steve Cooper’s team secured victory with Philip Zinckernagel, Brennan Johnson and Lewis Grabban scoring in the second period.
Cauley Woodrow had put the Tykes on course for a win. His second-half penalty was comfortably despatched to give the hosts a half-time lead.
Forest were brilliant in the second half though, with Yates particularly good.
The academy graduate does come in for some criticism but last night even his harshest critics will have fallen silent.
Yates played alongside James Garner in the midfield engine room. It’s a pairing that isn’t without imperfection but the youngster did outshine the Manchester United man at Oakwell.
The man who has progressed through the Forest ranks has played in each of Forest’s 10 games this season.
He has started every game and even captained the side in three of them.
Still, some fans can’t warm to him, however, with some claiming that he must do more on a consistent basis.
Last night he was excellent in the second half and caught the eye with a determined performance.

He really silenced his critics with a dominant 45-minute display and fans will be hoping this can be replicated on a regular basis.
The Reds lifted themselves out of the relegation zone last night and the players will be under no illusions that the season starts now.
Forest have quality in their squad and languishing in the lower echelons of the division doesn’t seem right.
The midfield pairing is providing Cooper with a conundrum, although on this showing, Yates will be a mainstay.
