Nottingham Forest defender Rodrigo Ely may not have played for the club yet, but he’s been busy acclimatising himself with the history of the city and the football club.
The centre-back checked in on a free transfer shortly after the summer transfer window had closed. He was last with Alaves in Spain but left them in the summer.
Now, he’s had to play a patient game as he builds up his match fitness and gets himself in shape for an assault on the Championship.
Ely is a vastly experienced 27-year-old and he will compliment a plethora of central defenders at the club. Scott McKenna, Joe Worrall, Tobias Figueiredo and Loic Mbe Soh are also in the ranks.
Yesterday he posted a picture of himself on Twitter posing alongside the Brian Clough statue which is situated in Nottingham city centre.
MORE FOREST STORIES
Clearly, he’s familiar with the great man. Clough oversaw two European Cup wins and is a true footballing legend.
Ely’s ambition right now is clearly to a lesser extent and his first goal will be to force his way into Steve Cooper’s team.
The defender has also been on the books of AC Milan and will know all too well about playing for a club with huge expectations.
What have Forest fans said about Ely?
They’re pretty impressed that Ely has immersed himself into the footballing history and culture on offer in Nottingham.
He’s clearly keen to get up to speed among the fan base and has been actively praising the club and the city on social media.
That has seen him warmed to the fans and plenty are looking forward to seeing him in action.
Following his glowing praise of Clough yesterday, here is what Forest fans said in response to Ely’s post on Twitter.
