Jamie Paterson was linked with a move back to Nottingham Forest in the summer and perhaps the club missed a trick.

He was a standout this afternoon as Swansea secured Welsh bragging rights from fierce rivals, Cardiff.

Paterson signed for the Swans on a free transfer in the summer and etched his name into club folklore earlier today.

The ex-Forest man scored a scintillating opener, before setting up two other goals in a 3-0 victory for Russell Martin’s team.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Paterson now has four goals this season and he looks like an exceptional free transfer by the Championship outfit.

The man who played 69 times for the Reds following a transfer from Walsall, was linked with a return in the summer.

With Brennan Johnson emerging through the ranks, the club ultimately chose not to pursue their former player and instead he joined Swansea.

Paterson was at Bristol City last season but fell out of favour following the appointment of Nigel Pearson as the club’s manager.

The Robins’ loss is ultimately Swansea’s gain and he’s clearly a player who is enjoying his football right now.

Paterson was relatively young during his time at Forest. With that in mind, the decision to let him leave didn’t look like a bad one at the time.

What have fans said about Forest linked Paterson?

Plenty have taken to Twitter this afternoon to rave about his stunning performance. It really was a joy to behold and offered a reminder of his undoubted quality.

Paterson typically plays as a number 10 and he’s thriving in that role under Martin’s management.

At 29 he perhaps wouldn’t have been a particularly good signing for Forest. He doesn’t really fit with the ethos of a Dane Murphy signing and he’d have very little resale value.

He was magnificent today, however, and here is what fans had to say about Paterson’s performance.
