Brennan Johnson scored for Forest yesterday as Steve Cooper’s men won 2-1 against Blackpool. The youngster tapped home after some good work from Max Lowe to set the Reds on their way. Afterwards, the 20-year-old received praise on Instagram from Lyle Taylor and Jamaal Lascelles.
Forest opened the scoring in the first half. A raking long ball from Joe Worrall found Lowe in acres of space. His weighted delivery across the box found Johnson who couldn’t miss from six yards.
It was Johnson’s first Forest goal at the City Ground. After strikes in games at Derby and Barnsley, he now has a moment to saviour on the banks of the River Trent.
Johnson is a popular player among the Forest fan base. Supporters are desperate to see him tied down to a new contract, given his standout form during 2021/22.
The youngster is getting better with each passing game. Under Steve Cooper, he has more of a license to roam inside from the flank and play almost as a number 10.
Johnson links up pretty well with Philip Zinckernagel and the pair were constant menaces for Blackpool to contend with during yesterday’s win.
What have Lyle Taylor and Jamaal Lascelles said about Forest man Johnson?
Taylor was an unused substitute yesterday, with Cooper choosing to use three other substitutes. He raved about Johnson and also suggested that the pink top he was wearing looked somewhat fetching on the youngster.
Taylor always takes part in pink October by donning pink boots and dying his hair. Yesterday, the team also warmed up in pink tops which will be auctioned off next week.
Lascelles also took to time out of his busy schedule to praise Johnson. He will hope to play for Newcastle today as they kick-start a new era with fresh owners overseeing things.
He subtly summed up Johnson and his first Forest goal with a few emojis in response to his Instagram post.
