Jordan Gabriel made a swift return to Nottingham Forest at the weekend. He started for the Tangerines during a 2-1 defeat for Neil Critchley’s men. After the game, he received some praise on Instagram from Lyle Taylor and Marlon Harewood.
The Reds opted to sell Gabriel on transfer deadline day back in September. With Djed Spence and Mohamed Drager checking in at the club, Gabriel was deemed surplus to requirements.
Forest’s former right-back was perhaps sold surprisingly. He had started three of the first four games of the season and was seemingly in favour under Chris Hughton.
The club wanted to head in a different direction though and in fairness, Forest haven’t looked back. Spence has been magnificent since checking in and there is plenty of cover at right-back.
Gabriel did get a decent reception on his return to the City Ground. Despite assisting Blackpool’s equaliser, he was on the losing side and came to clap all four stands at the end of the 90 minutes.
He was in the side thanks to an injury to Dujon Sterling. Interestingly he might find himself on the bench for a lot of the current campaign, although he did play well on Saturday.
What have Harewood and Taylor said about ex-Forest man Gabriel?
Taylor and Gabriel clearly had a good relationship when the pair were at Forest. The current Reds striker has made a quip about his ability to kick people when tackling.
The youngster denied two almost certain goals with a couple of ferocious last-ditch tackles and Blackpool fans clearly value his importance.
Harewood was at the game on Saturday as a special guest in the hospitality suites. He also suggested that it was nice to see Gabriel, although it’s unclear how these two ex-Forest players know each other.
Gabriel has bags of time to continue improving and after getting a good reception from the Forest faithful, he now has closure on his chapter at the City Ground.
