Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor and summer transfer target Jerry Yates have both been named in the SofaScore Team of the Week.

The 31-year-old scored twice in injury time as the Reds defeated Bristol City 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Yates scored twice last night as Blackpool came from 2-0 down to defeat Reading 3-2 away from home.

Both strikers have been named in the alternative to the official Team of the Week, alongside Swansea striker Joel Piroe.

It was a memorable night for Taylor. He had scored just once in 36 games prior to his brace at Ashton Gate.

His only goal during the fruitless period came on the opening day of the 2021/22 campaign and this was a timely return to form.

Taylor cooly tucked away a penalty in the 91st minute before tapping home a saved Joe Lolley shot less than a minute later.

It sent the travelling supporters into their raptures and piled on the pressure for City boss Nigel Pearson.

Taylor’s move to Forest hasn’t quite gone according to plan. He is, however, a likeable character in the dressing room and clearly, Steve Cooper has done wonders for his confidence.

Interestingly, Yates was tipped with a move to the City Ground in the summer. Had he signed, Taylor would almost certainly have fallen down the pecking order.

Could Forest return for Yates in January and what does the future hold for Taylor?

Yates was valued at £5 million during the summer. Now, he’s banging the goals in left, right and centre, with Blackpool likely to value him even higher.

The 24-year-old now also has a contract until 2024 at Bloomfield Road. He’s scored five goals this season, with one of those coming against Forest on Saturday.

It does seem unlikely that the Reds will go and spend big money on a striker in January, especially with Lewis Grabban and Taylor in the squad.

As for Forest’s experienced striker, Tuesday should have given him a confidence boost.

He may find himself on the bench again this weekend but all he can do is continue grasping the chances when they come his way.
