Nottingham Forest have a really exciting player within their ranks, according to Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff. The former Watford man was part of the studio panel for Friday’s 1-1 draw at QPR.
After the game, McAnuff joined the long list of admirers who have been left purring by the form of Brennan Johnson. The 20-year-old was bang in form once more and terrorised the QPR defence.
Johnson has been a revelation for the Reds this season. Since returning from Lincoln he has become a mainstay in the team and is thriving under Steve Cooper.
Last season he was on loan at Lincoln. He fired 13 goals and registered 14 assists as the Imps lost in the League One play-off final.
That move clearly paid off and Forest are now reaping the rewards. His performances have been so impressive that Cooper is keen to tie him down to a new contract at the City Ground.
McAnuff was also impressed and waxed lyrical about Johnson during the live coverage of Friday’s contest.
He told Sky Sports: “He got into some fantastic areas but it’s the big decision at key times. He’s got some lovely touches, brilliant pace and he’s really positive. I’m very excited about him.”
Sensation: Forest are fortunate to have Johnson
The youngster is very much one of Forest’s own and the club’s supporters have really taken to him this season. He has scored three goals and claimed three assists during 2021/22 and there is more to come.
Although his career is still in the early stages, the signs are ridiculously good for Johnson.
McAnuff perhaps does have a point. Johnson could do with working on his decision making in the final third but that will come in time.
For now, Johnson just needs to keep working hard and continue trying to help Forest climb the Championship table.
On Friday he proved a nightmare for QPR and tomorrow he will hope for similar joy against Sheffield United.
