Ryan Yates is a man who often divides the Nottingham Forest fan base. Right now, however, even his biggest critics are being forced to try the humble pie on offer in the City Ground canteen.

The Reds midfielder has been brilliant since Steve Cooper came in. Along with Scott McKenna, he is the only player to have started every game this season and he’s starting to show his quality.

Yates has never seen his commitment to the cause thrown into doubt by Forest fans. Often though he has seemingly lacked the quality to continue warranting a regular place in the team.

Now, that isn’t a problem. He is learning with each and every game and against QPR on Friday night he was once again outstanding as Forest claimed a 1-1 draw.

It was Yates who put the teasing ball into the penalty area in injury time. His delivery caused problems for the QPR defence and Jack Colback was on hand to volley home a deserved equaliser.

Yates is now just three games away from bringing up a century of appearances for the Reds. This season he has actually captained the team on three occasions and is a respected member of the dressing room.

What have Forest fans said about Yates?

The consensus seems to be that he has turned a corner somewhat. Although that may be slightly premature, it’s easy to fathom why fans are starting to believe that.

Right now, Yates is showing his consistency and if he maintains that trait it bodes well for Forest, with Cooper clearly viewing him as an integral part of his team.

Following Friday’s excellent display, supporters took to Twitter. They raved about the performance of Yates and are keen to see him produce these types of displays more frequently.
