There is a running joke among Nottingham Forest supporters that Sheffield United simply love to sign an ex-Red.

Several players have swapped the City Ground for Bramall Lane in recent years.

Tonight the Blades arrive on Trentside and several former Forest favourites will be aiming to make it an unhappy night for Steve Cooper.

Ahead of tonight’s game, we looked at the former Forest players who currently play for Sheffield United.

It’s still a travesty that Billy Davies didn’t fancy the talisman enough to sign him permanently at the end of his loan spell.

Now 35, Sharp scored 11 times in 40 appearances for the Reds and was a firm favourite among the fan base.

He is a hero in South Yorkshire and has scored 116 goals in 307 outings for his boyhood club.

‘Super Benny’ is perhaps best known among Forest fans for his last-minute winner against Derby County in 2015.

He played over 200 times for Forest and performed pretty well in a number of positions as the Reds’ utility man.

Now, he’s a regular in the Blades team under Slavisa Jokanovic and is playing really well this season.

A player who typically divided the fan base, Robinson can operate at left-back or as a central defender.

He was signed by Aitor Karanka and was a regular in the Forest team.

The former Liverpool trainee made 59 appearances for the Reds before moving to South Yorkshire.

The United talisman is a player who has left the Reds in disbelief at how his career has transformed since leaving the City Ground.

He never really made the grade at Forest and was largely used as a backup option.

McGoldrick has scored 29 goals in 125 appearances for the Blades and is likely to be on the bench tonight.

A frustrating time of things for Burke means that he’s not really involved under Jokanovic these days.

His career hasn’t really kicked on since Fawaz sold the crown jewels and accepted £13 million from RB Leipzig for his services.

Jokanovic worked with the Algerian midfielder during his time managing in the Middle East and opted to take him to Bramall Lane.

The 35-year-old has played just twice in all competition for the Blades and is unlikely to make the matchday squad this evening.

Luke Freeman

The attacking midfielder spent last season on loan with Forest and struggled to make an impact.

He made 25 appearances and scored one goal, enduring a season to forget that was hampered by injuries.
