It was long ago when some Nottingham Forest supporters said that Jack Colback was finished. Now, he’s not only bang in form but he’s also proving a utility option for the Reds.

The combative midfielder was handed a different role last night. With Max Lowe ineligible to face his parent club, Colback switched into the left wing-back role.

As ever, Colback didn’t let anyone at Forest down. He is a man clearly enjoying his football right now and it showed against Sheffield United during last night’s 1-1 draw.

Forest were forced to come from behind. Morgan Gibbs-White opened the scoring for the Blades before Lewis Grabban tapped home after a decent ball in from Brennan Johnson.

Colback has played at left-back before during his career. It’s some time since he played there regularly and as a wing-back in a Steve Cooper system, it would always represent a challenge.

He did well though and highlighted just how important he can become to Forest during 2021/22.

The 32-year-old has now played 11 games during the current campaign and he’s showing zero sign of fatigue which is quite remarkable really.

He’s played very little football over the last year and he’d be forgiven for starting to feel the effects of a strong run of games.

What have Forest fans said about Colback?

They were delighted with his performance once again last night. He stepped into a problem position and did a job up against the £23 million Rhian Brewster.

Forest won’t want to rely on Colback all the time on the left-hand side. Not least because it takes something out of the midfield engine room when he isn’t in there.

It does give Cooper some options though. Fans were certainly impressed by what they saw and took to Twitter afterwards to praise the performance of the ex-Newcastle man.
