Nottingham Forest fans are not happy. They’re satisfied with the team but they’ve launched an attack on the EFL for the standard of their match officials.
The Reds have been on the wrong end of three horrendous decisions from EFL referees in the space of four days.
First, Andy Davies refused two pretty obvious penalties for the Reds at QPR on Friday. On Tuesday night, Brennan Johnson was booked despite seemingly being fouled by Chris Basham.
The standard in the EFL does appear to be getting worse and Forest aren’t the only club to suffer. Whether it’s down to a lack of interested parties down the pyramid or whether the Championship officials are just feeling the heat remains to be seen.
Either way Forest boss Steve Cooper wasn’t happy after the 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.
He implied that he will be having words with the relevant people at his bemusement at some refereeing decisions of late.
Cooper’s dad Keith was a referee and he knows his onions when it comes to what constitutes right and wrong.
Nobody gets a kick out seeing a referee struggle. It’s a difficult job and not everyone wants to put themselves in the firing line to do it.
Ultimately at the Championship level, they’re paid a substantial salary to get more right than they do wrong. Right now that isn’t the case.
What have Forest fans said about EFL referees?
They’re not happy. Plenty are completely incensed with Tuesday’s man in the middle, Leigh Doughty. It was felt that he was pretty poor throughout and needs reprimanding.
We know that probably won’t happen but ultimately, his poor decision cost Forest yet another penalty and stuck another yellow card in the column for Johnson.
Here is what the Reds fan base have had to say on Twitter after another strange and truly bizarre refereeing performance.
