Former Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash is now an international footballer. He came on for the final 26 minutes on Friday night as Paulo Sousa’s men defeated Andorra 4-1. After the game, he received Instagram comments from Jason Cummings and Tendayi Darikwa.

There is a really touching image going around from the game. It shows Cash celebrating a Poland goal with none other than Robert Lewandowski and fans are delighted for him.

The 24-year-old has grown as a footballer at Aston Villa. He made the move in 2020 from Forest, costing the West Midlands-based outfit £16 million. Already, that looks like a complete bargain from a Villa perspective.

Cash will hope to help Poland reach the World Cup next winter. They will need a qualifier though, with England set to win the group and seal an automatic place in Qatar.

Cash is playing some of the best football of his career and England will perhaps regret not giving him a chance. Gareth Southgate has a plethora of options at right-back and perhaps Cash felt the pathway was somewhat blocked.

During his time at Forest, Cash made 141 appearances scoring 13 goals and registering three assists. He signed for the club’s academy initially and worked his way through the ranks.

What have Cummings and Darikwa said to former Forest ace Cash?

Both players have moved on and are now playing pretty well. Darikwa is at Wigan, whilst Cummings is leading the line at Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

They both spent time playing with Cash and after his cameo performance on Friday, they took time to send him some support on Instagram.

He also received some high profile praise from former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.

The man who made 60 appearances for Poland took to Instagram to send Cash some regards after his debut.

The Villa man is a likeable player and he’ll hope to continue progressing now in order to thrive on the international stage.
