Nottingham Forest defender Tobias Figueiredo has said that he wants to play in the Premier League alongside Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 27-year-old is out of contract during the summer and a contract extension has not been forthcoming just yet.

He has ruled out a return to Portugal though and has instead placed his sights on joining the United duo in the Premier League.

Figueiredo arrived at Forest from Sporting Lisbon in 2018 and has largely been a mainstay in the starting eleven.

The defender has been a regular in the team since Steve Cooper took over. He has made the spot at the heart of a three-man defence his own during the last couple of months.

Now, he’s set his ambitions high and has hinted that he’d been keen to stay at Forest beyond this season.

He told A’Bola via Sport Witness: “I feel the Championship is a great showcase. If I had stayed in Portugal, I would only be better if I were playing for the big ones.

“So it’s not my goal to return, I believe that, at 27, I have that margin to reach the Premier League and see myself alongside Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and all the others. As a child, I was a United fan, but in the Premier League any club is good.”

Should Figueiredo earn a Forest contract extension?

On current form, it’s difficult to see Forest allowing him to leave. He’s approaching his peak and the Reds should see a future for him.

The Portuguese enforcer isn’t without fault. He is, however, a solid player to have in the ranks even if it’s as an understudy from the bench.

Figueiredo is now playing well. Errors riddled his game last year but he’s returned with a vengeance during 2021/22.

With that in mind, the Reds should prepare a new for Figueiredo in the coming months.
