Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson helped Wales secure a second-place finish in their World Cup qualifying group.

A win over Denmark on Tuesday ensured a home semi-final for Scotland.

When are the play-offs played?

The play-offs will commence in March between the 24th and the 29th.

This means that Johnson will head off to play for Wales at what could prove to be a critical time of the campaign for Forest.

The draw for the play-offs takes place on Friday 26th November at 4pm.

How do the play-offs work?

There are 12 teams who have qualified for a play-off place. These are made up of 10 teams who finished second in their group; plus two top-ranked teams from the UEFA National League who are yet to qualify.

There will be three groups, each with a one-off semi-final and a final.

Only three of the qualified teams will emerge from the play-offs with a golden ticket to Qatar in 2022.

Who could Wales face?

Joining Wales in the play-offs are Scott McKenna’s Scotland. They defeated Denmark on Monday and that means they’ll be seeded.

Wales – and Scotland – could therefore potentially both win places at the World Cup next summer.

Italy and Portugal are the big-hitters forced to settle for a place in the lottery.

Wales will player either Turkey, Poland, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Austria or the Czech Republic.

Rob Page’s team are seeded and can’t be drawn against Italy, Portugal, Russia, Sweden or Scotland at the semi-final stage.
