Nottingham Forest drew 1-1 with Reading yesterday as Steve Cooper’s men continued their recent run of decent form. After the game, Forest supporters praised the efforts of Scott McKenna.
The colossal defender has been bang in form since checking in from Aberdeen in the summer of 2020. He did struggle with injuries during 2020/21 but has been ever-present this campaign.
McKenna is a no-nonsense central defender who displays intelligence way beyond his relatively tender years in the Forest team. Yesterday, he lined up alongside Joe Worrall as Cooper adopted a 4-2-3-1 formation.
The 25-year-old is no-frills really and just quietly goes about his business. He rarely makes mistakes and remains solid as a rock regardless of the opposition.
McKenna being left-footed brings a lovely balance to the defensive unit. He plays well as a two or in a three and isn’t afraid to step between the lines in Cooper’s system.
Yesterday he played for the full 90 minutes once again and stood firm even when the Royals threw Andy Carroll on with half an hour to go.
Forest couldn’t prevent Scott Dann from equalising but nonetheless, it was still a pretty decent defensive display from the Reds.
What did Forest fans say about McKenna?
They were once again mightily impressed and many believe him to be the club’s Player of the Year so far this season.
McKenna is growing into English football and on current form, there must be Premier League clubs sniffing around.
The left-footed performer is strong as an ox, wins most of his aerial battles and loves to make a crunching tackle.
After the game yesterday, fans took to Twitter to rave about McKenna and her heroics for Forest once more.
