Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for Keinan Davis during the summer transfer window but he could be set for a new lease of life at Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old was touted with a move to the City Ground, according to TEAMtalk. A loan move wasn’t forthcoming though and he remained at Villa Park.
Now, with Steven Gerrard at the help, The Athletic believes that he has a manager that rates him highly.
Furthermore, it has been claimed that Gerrard actually wanted to sign him when he was in charge at Rangers.
That certainly bodes well for the talisman and he could be in line for more chances to play for the club where he’s risen through the youth ranks.
Danny Ings is currently out injured at Villa and that has seen Davis promoted to a backup striker.
There will come a time when the youngster craves regular first-team football though. This season, the 23-year-old has played just 159 minutes of football and that isn’t enough.
The latest report claims that several Championship clubs still want Davis on loan and Forest could be one of them.
Steve Cooper will almost certainly want a younger striker added to his ranks in January.
Lewis Grabban has scored eight goals so far this season but at 33 there will come times when he needs a rest.
At the moment, Forest have Lyle Taylor in reserve but he’s not really produced the goods on a consistent basis.
Talent: Forest should remain keen on Davis
Any temporary deal comes with an element of risk but if Gerrard can be tempted into loaning out the striker, Forest should be active in their pursuit.
He’s unlikely to be a regular in Villa’s team anytime soon and he will relish the chance to get some frequent game time.
Forest aren’t likely to make him a first-team regular but with a demanding schedule, he’d get plenty of chances to play and would be a useful option from the bench.
