Nottingham Forest defeated Peterborough United 2-0 at the City Ground yesterday, with James Garner and Ryan Yates on the scoresheet. It was a first for the season for the on-loan Manchester United man and afterwards, he received praise on Instagram from Jesse Lingard.

The United owned talent has taken some time to get up to speed during his second spell back at Forest. In the last few weeks, however, he has showcased the talent that Forest know and love from last season.

Garner is highly rated by people behind the scenes at Old Trafford. He will spend the 2021/22 campaign at the City Ground and Forest will hope there is even more to come in the coming months.

Lingard finds himself in a difficult position. First team football hasn’t been forthcoming and he has been linked with a move away from the club during the January transfer window.

The England man was in fine form for West Ham during a loan spell last season. He really enjoyed his football at the London Stadium and it was perhaps a surprise when they didn’t sign him permanently.

What has Lingard said about Forest star Garner?

Following his maiden Forest goal with fans inside the stadium, the youngster received messages from several Reds players and Lingard.

The United man seemingly had faith in Garner even though things haven’t perhaps been going according to plan during 2021/22.

The 20-year-old operated as the number 10 in Steve Cooper’s team yesterday. He appeared to thrive on the role and seemed to welcome a stint playing in a more advanced role.

Garner is really growing into his time at Forest now and he looks set to become a mainstay in the team under Cooper.

Lingard’s message of support should give him confidence and the United starlet will hope to continue helping Forest up the Championship table.
