Nottingham Forest midfielder Cafu isn’t renowned for his goals and after his first strike in the Garibaldi, Joao Carvalho has sent his teammate a message on Instagram.
The 28-year-old has been a peripheral figure during 2021/22. He has only recently earned a shot in Steve Cooper’s team but he’s desperate to take his chance.
Cafu has been a steady signing by Forest. His arrival was met with some angst given that he was part of the deal that saw fan-favourite Tiago Silva leave the club.
The versatile midfield player showcased his class during yesterday’s 4-1 win over Swansea City.
He was introduced with 23 minutes left to play and fired home a late fourth goal for the Reds.
Cafu is capable of breaking between the lines and fits the role of a box-to-box midfielder down to the ground.
He arguably had something in the locker that no other midfielder at Forest has and the Portuguese performer will now hope for more game time.
Ryan Yates, James Garner, Jack Colback and Braian Ojeda are all competing for places in the midfield and he will have to continue impressing.
His goal at Swansea certainly did his chances of regular football no harm at all, however.
What has Carvalho said about Forest ace Cafu?
Although Cooper has allowed several first-team players the chance to impress since he arrived at Forest, Carvalho isn’t one of them.
The luxury player hasn’t played a single minute of football since playing the first half of a 1-1 draw against Derby in August.
He’s not been seen since and ultimately, his days at the City Ground do look numbered.
Carvalho was on the bench once again yesterday. Afterwards, he poked fun at his compatriot for his awkward celebration.
He posted a message on Instagram with the translation stating that his goal was better than what followed.
