Nottingham Forest are hoping to keep Djed Spence beyond January, despite Middlesbrough holding a recall clause in his loan deal.
The Reds landed the right-back shortly after the transfer window had closed back in August. He has played 16 games for Forest, scoring once and claiming one assist.
Steve Cooper has made him a mainstay in the team and he’d relish the chance to keep him beyond January.
Prior to taking the Boro job, Chris Wilder was spotted at the City Ground and since then speculation has been rife that he will recall the 21-year-old.
Now, it would seem as though that might not be the case, with The Telegraph believing that Spence wants to stay.
Spence was an eye-catching loan signing when he checked in on Trentside, albeit a strange one.
Some supporters were perplexed at why Forest were signing a player who couldn’t get in the team at a club in the same division.
Those cynics were soon silenced though after seeing him play, with Spence lighting up the City Ground.
Spence is under contract at Boro and perhaps the ball remains in their court.
If the Reds could keep hold of the right-back it would be a major statement for the rest of the season from a Forest perspective.
What have Forest fans said about Spence update?
It’s fair to say that they’re pretty excited – and why wouldn’t they be!

Spence has been a revelation since signing for Forest and he’s put a shift in during every game he’s played for the club.
It seems as though he’s really enjoying his football and losing him would be a real blow for Cooper and Forest.
Following the update which emerged last night, the Reds’ fan base has taken to Twitter urging Spence to stay with Forest.
