Nottingham Forest are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to sign a striker during the January transfer window.
The Reds will go in search of a new talisman next month, with a younger player sought as an alternative to Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor.
Aston Villa youngster Keinan Davis and Arsenal gem Folarin Balogun are two names that have been linked with a City Ground switch.
Now, The Athletic claims that Forest could cast their net further afield.
A report this morning says that the Reds are looking at a young striker currently operating with a Serie A club in Italy.
The unnamed player would sign on loan with Forest taking the option of a permanent deal during the summer.
Boss Steve Cooper is keen to not see his squad full of loan players but does concede it may take some time for the club not to rely on them.
For now, it looks like a viable way of strengthening the squad and that looks set to continue for a few more windows.
Grabban has scored nine goals this season, with Taylor contributing just three.
As a result, Cooper is keen to add some more firepower to the ranks in January as Forest bid to gatecrash the play-offs.
Crucial: New striker could be vital to Forest fortunes
Grabban is in decent form but leaving him to do it all on his own was Forest’s downfall during 2019/20.
On that occasion, the Reds missed out on the play-offs in excruciating circumstances.
Forest won’t want history to repeat itself and as a result, Cooper will want a striker to be added to the ranks in January.
It will be interesting to see which Serie A strikers will now emerge as outlets scramble to discover who the mystery striker is.
