Nottingham Forest want Folarin Balogun, according to reports, and some comments from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta should make for interesting reading.
The Reds will go in search of a new striker during the transfer window. Balogun has been linked, with Forest keen to add a younger option to their attack.
Arsenal are preparing to let the youngster leave when the window opens. He hasn’t played for the first team since August and has outgrown under-23 football.
Arteta is keen for the 20-year-old to get some regular action under his belt ahead of challenging for a place at Arsenal next season.
It’s perhaps a surprise that he’s not played more often, given that the Gunners had to work hard to tempt him into signing a new deal.
Arteta is a big fan though. Some comments from April suggest that Balogun is destined for stardom at the Emirates Stadium.
The Spanish boss told the Daily Mail: “He’s a very, very hungry boy. He wants to do everything, he’s a real goal threat and works tremendously hard. Those are unique qualities as a striker.”
Quality: Balogun would be exciting Forest signing
The striker will have a queue of clubs vying for his signature and Forest are right to put themlesves firmly in the hunt.
Balogun would add something different to the qualities that Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor offer.
The Arsenal gem is powerful, has skill in abundance and ultimately, knows where the back of the net is.
He has scored 15 goals for the under-23s this season and that at least suggests that he’s got his eye in ready for a loan move.
Forest have put themselves in the mix for a play-off place in recent weeks.
Signing Balogun on loan in January could help the Reds get over the line come to the end of the season.
