Nottingham Forest defeated Hull City 2-1 to move to within one place of the Championship play-off places at the City Ground.

Lewis Grabban and Brennan Johnson scored the goals as the Reds came behind to defeat the Tigers.

It was far from routine for Forest. Keane Lewis-Potter has given the away side the lead and the Reds did trail at the break.

Forest came out and stuck to their guns though. Steve Cooper’s team were comfortable throughout and didn’t really deserve to go behind.

In Ryan Yates, Forest have a player who is desperate to prove himself to the supporters – and yesterday he was brilliant.

The 24-year-old started the game at centre-back again but after Jordi Osei-Tutu picked up a knock reverted to his regular midfield position.

He didn’t disappoint and should perhaps have been named the Man of the Match ahead of Johnson.

Yates is slowly but surely winning the fan base around and with performances like this it’s easy to see why he’s firmly in favour with Cooper.

The academy player made his 104th appearance for the Reds yesterday and this was a display that showcased why he gets picked.

What have Forest fans said about Yates?

It’s fair to say that he’s busy silencing the critics.

Yates has constantly divided opinion at the City Ground but he’s bang in form at the moment and long may it continue.

The midfielder showcased his class yesterday by putting on a show in two different positions and deserved his round of applause at the final whistle.

Supporters were buzzing with his overall performance and afterwards, they took to Twitter to rave about him.
