Nottingham Forest are in the market for a striker and one journalist has claimed that an unnamed player from Serie A is on the radar.
Paul Taylor of The Athletic made that suggestion and it could be a player who has rejected Forest in the past.
It was claimed by Gianluca Di Marzio back in September that M’Bala Nzola was on the radar of Dane Murphy.
The Spezia striker opted against joining Forest at the eleventh hour. As a result, the Reds were left frustrated in their quest for a striker.
It was claimed that Istanbul Basaksehir were keen to take him instead; although he ultimately chose to stay in Italy.
The 2021/22 campaign hasn’t proved overly successful for Nzola and he could be on the move in January.
His current club are facing the prospect of being relegated from the top-flight and he’s scored just twice all season.
Last season, he scored 11 goals and it was probably that form that caught the eye of Forest CEO Dane Murphy.
In the summer, Nzola will have just a single year remaining on his existing deal and that could see Spezia tempted to offload the striker.
Could Nzola be the mystery man for Forest?
He could be, but who knows.
Nzola has clearly had his head turned given the summer interest in his services and his form has suffered this year.
At 25, the player does fit the criteria of a Murphy signing and Steve Cooper would perhaps relish the challenge of improving him.
- STAR: Forest man shines again
Forest will go on the lookout for a younger striker and Nzola would be an intriguing addition.
The Angola international has been with Spezia since January 2020. Given their plight, a departure could be on the cards.
It will be interesting to see if any other links emerge after last week’s Serie A suggestion.
Nzola looks like a logical link though and it will be interesting to see whether Murphy will move.
